"Food matters are a matter of life and death for a nation" - Bung Karno

Swasembada Institute is an independent research institution focused on analysis, evaluation, and public policy advocacy in the agro-food sector. We serve as a bridge between academic research, the practical needs of business actors, and the interests of the wider community, in realizing a sovereign, sustainable, and equitable national food ecosystem.

In carrying out its mission, Swasembada Institute prioritizes a scientific, data-driven approach and independent analysis, free from political or corporate interference. Through incisive and contextual research, we strive to provide applicable policy recommendations to strengthen national food self-sufficiency from upstream to downstream.

Our primary research focuses include:

1. National Agriculture and Livestock Policy – Analyzing the effectiveness of government regulations, subsidies, and incentives in increasing the productivity and welfare of farmers and livestock breeders.

2. Food Security and Sovereignty – Examining the food supply chain system, distribution, and accessibility of food for all levels of society.

3. Agro-Industrial Economics and Commodity Trade – Examining domestic and global market dynamics and their implications for prices, imports and exports, and the competitiveness of Indonesian food products.

4. Food Innovation and Technology – Evaluating the application of appropriate technology and digital innovation to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the agro-food system.

5. Food Social and Environmental – Mapping the social, ecological, and land governance impacts in the context of sustainable national food production.

Swasembada Institute also plays an active role in disseminating public knowledge through the publication of policy briefs, research reports, issue releases, and strategic discussion forums with stakeholders across sectors—government, the private sector, academia, and civil society.

In the spirit of “Data for Food Sovereignty,” we believe that quality public decisions must be rooted in objective research and be in the best interests of the nation.
